Improving access to mental health support

Community events
The Principal (Hotel), Station Road, York YO24 1AA
Monday 19th February, 2024 - 10:30 to 15:30

About this event

How people access mental health support matters. Evidence suggests that the processes people have to navigate can have wide-ranging impacts: everything from how they are treated by staff on the front-line, to the experience of booking appointments, to the forms that need to be filled out to access treatment.

The University of York wants to explore how to improve access to mental health support through reforming these “administrative” processes.

To identify priorities for future research and get a better sense of people’s experiences of these systems, we would like to hold a face to face workshop with public contributors to
identify important areas for future mental health services research.

If you want to take part in this workshop, you  must live in York or North Yorkshire and have lived experience of accessing mental health services, through the NHS or local councils, either as a service user or carer.

Individuals will be offered £75 for their involvement and travel expenses will be covered. Attendees will be asked to read a short plain English summary, detailing plans for the day, in advance of the workshop. A diverse range of perspectives are sought, and individuals will be invited to take part on that basis.

The project follows reports by both Healthwatch North Yorkshire and Healthwatch York, and an action plan and commitment to do more was made by the North Yorkshire & York Mental Health Alliance. There has also been some additional funding:
