Ashley Green joins Healthwatch North Yorkshire as Chief Executive Officer

Healthwatch North Yorkshire’s first full-time Chief Executive Officer has outlined how he plans to use more than 20 years of experience to help improve health and social care in the county.

Ashley Green this week joined the staff team at the independent charity working to represent people using health and social care services in North Yorkshire.

He has spent more than 20 years working in the voluntary and local authority sectors, most recently for Yorkshire Cancer Research in Harrogate and for the British Lung Foundation in London, as well as for Nottinghamshire County Council.

I’m delighted to be joining Healthwatch North Yorkshire at such an important and interesting time for the health and social care sector across the county.

Ashley Green, CEO.

“Within all my roles I’ve enjoyed working with the public and patients, health care professionals and decision-makers (commissioners and policy-makers) to help bring about significant changes to the lives of people living with health and social care issues via advocacy, collaboration and championing the patient/public voice.

“It’s a huge honour to be joining such an influential organisation as Healthwatch North Yorkshire, and I’m looking forward to working with my team and meeting the people of North Yorkshire to help represent their views and improve care and services across the county.”

Ashley moved to Harrogate in 2018 after spending almost 20 years in London, where he worked for the British Lung Foundation in many roles from supporting volunteers, campaigning and advocacy, service development and innovation, and finally as their Head of Service Development. More recently he worked for Yorkshire Cancer Research as their Head of Health Initiatives and Services where he worked to improve and fund cancer services across Yorkshire.

He is from Nottingham where he spent his childhood. As well as London, has lived in Sunderland while at university and briefly in Edinburgh. He lives with his wife and two young children and enjoys walking the family dog, listening to music, sport and exploring the great Yorkshire countryside and historic sites.

Following the appointment of Ashley as Chief Executive Officer of Healthwatch North Yorkshire, Chair Chris Brackley is stepping back as Interim CEO and from the day-to-day management of the charity – which is commissioned by North Yorkshire County Council to carry out statutory duties under the Health and Social Care Act 2012.

I’m delighted to welcome Ashley to Healthwatch North Yorkshire as our first full-time Chief Executive Officer. We have ambitious and exciting plans under way and he joins us at a crucial time for both the organisation and the health and social care sector.

Chris Brackley, Chair
