Over 300,000 people reached: The power of Healthwatch's media Impact

Between July 2024 and March 2025, Healthwatch North Yorkshire featured in the media more than 20 times—amplifying public concerns, influencing local policy, and helping over 300,000 people hear real stories that are shaping better health and care in our communities.

Healthwatch North Yorkshire has worked hard to ensure people’s voices are heard not just by decision-makers—but by the wider public. By shining a light on key issues like postnatal care, rural health inequalities, youth vaping, and access to dentistry, we’ve helped spark vital conversations across newspapers, radio, and TV.

This round-up highlights the stories that reached audiences across the region and beyond between 1 April 2024 and 31 March 2025. More than 20 pieces of coverage helped elevate real experiences and influence local priorities—reaching over 300,000 people. Behind every headline was someone who shared their story.

Healthwatch North Yorkshire shone a spotlight on the unequal access to postnatal care across the county, prompting widespread media discussion about the support available for new mothers.
